Major Changes to the 2020 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend
My wife and I recently started working and running together – in hopes of one day running a Disney 5k, 15k, Half Marathon – whatever level we end up getting to! Well, as Disney kicks off this new runDisney season, it seems they have some big changes coming our way.
The first big news is that the course for the Walt Disney World Marathon has changed. Starting during this year’s Marathon, held January 8 – 12, 2020, runners will run through Blizzard Beach as well spend more time running through Epcot and less time on the roads around the parks. The Marathon will also start at 5:00 am (that’s really early), 30 minutes earlier than previously.
Second, runners will now have access to a new outdoor area where they may take photos, pick up their gear for the Marathon, stretch and recover following the race. This area is exclusive to participants so supporters who are part of the ChEAR Squad will have access to the finish line, viewing locations (like the one at Magic Kingdom) as well as other things but may not have access to the exclusive runner location. runDisney also states that additional details are forthcoming so if you are a runner, visit runDisney.com for more details.
Oh, and if you haven’t seen the participant medals for this year, we’ve placed them below. Photos are courtesy of the runDisney Blog on the same topic and are owned by Disney.
